Common across pharmacies, salons, laboratories and retail counters where staff need a light protective layer over regular clothing rather than full medical scrubs — see our medical scrubs page if you need clinical-grade wear instead.
A dust coat is a light, knee-length or hip-length coat worn over everyday clothes. In Kenya you see them in pharmacies, supermarkets, hardware shops, butcheries, salons and barber shops, school stores and small laboratories. The coat keeps ordinary clothes clean, shows customers who works there and gives the business a consistent look at the counter.
MoveBrands is a Nairobi Kasarani-based manufacturer. We make dust coats in-house, and you can see fabrics, colours and cuts at our Kasarani, Nairobi shop. Shop owners from Nairobi estates and from towns like Thika, Machakos and Kiambu often visit to pick a sample before ordering a set for the whole team.
| Business | Suggested style | Colour | Notes |

| Salon and barbershop | Tunic or short coat with side pockets | Black, maroon or brand colour | Dark colours hide dye and product stains |
| Hardware and agrovet | Hip-length with two large pockets | Navy, grey or brand colour | Heavier fabric suits dusty counters |
| Supermarket and retail | Light coat with business name on the back | Brand colour | Easy to spot staff on the floor |
| School store and laboratory | White, long-sleeved | White | Compare with school lab coats |
We usually use cotton-polyester twill with an easy-wash finish. It does not need heavy ironing, tolerates frequent washing and keeps white clean for longer than thin cotton. White coats show marks quickly, so owners should buy at least two coats per person and rotate them.
Embroidering the business name on the chest or back gives a neat result and lasts through frequent washing. A name and job title in smaller thread works well for pharmacies and clinics, where customers need to identify the person serving them. Digitising is a one-time setup, and we keep the file for repeat orders. See embroidery and our medical scrubs for clinical staff.
Standard bulk embroidery is ready 5-7 working days after artwork approval. Bulk rates apply to larger orders, and a family-run shop with three employees is as welcome as a chain with thirty.
The most common problems we hear about are coats that are too short for the role, sleeves that get in the way at a counter and pockets placed too low to reach comfortably. Pharmacy and clinic staff usually prefer a longer coat for a professional look, while shop attendants who lift stock choose hip-length coats for freedom of movement.
If you are not sure, visit the Kasarani, Nairobi shop with two or three staff of different builds, try the sample sizes and agree a size chart before ordering the full set. It takes a few minutes and avoids a second order.
