A school sports kit is not one garment. Most schools need a daily PE set, a team kit for fixtures, and a house-colour t-shirt for sports day. Each one is worn differently, washed differently and paid for by a different person, so it helps to plan them separately before you ask any supplier for a quote.

Choosing between PE wear, team kits and house colours

Match the fabric to the use. Cotton-poly is comfortable and forgiving for daily PE. Polyester is lighter and dries quickly, which suits jerseys that are worn hard and washed after every match. If you are unsure, bring your current kit to our shop and we will compare it with fabric samples on the counter.

Names, numbers and crests: how the branding is done

Branding is where school sports kits differ most in price and in how long they look good. We use three methods, and each has a job.

• Screen printing for school names and logos on PE t-shirts and house shirts. It suits large batches of identical shirts, and the cost per shirt falls as the quantity rises. See screen printing.
• Sublimation printing for team jerseys with full-colour designs, player names and numbers that will not crack or peel. See sublimation printing.
• Embroidery for crests on tracksuit jackets and blazers worn to fixtures. See embroidery.

Embroidery digitising is a one-time setup, and standard bulk embroidery is ready 5-7 working days after you approve the artwork. Your crest file stays on record, so a later tracksuit order uses the same file.

Running a house colour system

Schools with four or five houses often run into the same problems: wrong counts per house, shades that do not match from one batch to the next, and late changes when pupils move between houses. A few habits prevent most of them.

1. Get the final house lists from the sports teacher before you order, not the estimate from last term.
2. Choose house colours that are clearly different under bright sun. Two blues or two reds that look different on paper often look the same on a field.
3. Order a small spare quantity in each colour for late admissions and replacements.
4. Keep the same design for every house and change only the colour, so one pattern file serves all of them.
5. Ask us to send a sample photo on WhatsApp for approval before the full batch is cut.

Keeping school sports kit costs down

Parents notice kit costs more than almost any other uniform item, because sports kit is bought on top of the main uniform. Three decisions make the biggest difference.

• Limit the number of colours and print positions. Every extra colour or placement adds work.
• Order in one bulk batch per term rather than many small ones, because bulk rates apply to the whole run.
• Use a simple one-colour school name on daily PE wear and keep full-colour sublimation for team jerseys only.
